The brief was to address this, and to create a much more inviting and comfortable space to be used by staff, students and members of the public.
Using the same foot print as the old coffee bar, we completely redesigned the flow and the usability of the space. A new ‘U’ shape coffee bar was fabricated, using timber strip cladding to the frontage, and a solid surface top, this created a crisp, clean and hardwearing basis for the coffee bar.
We tackled the confusing flow, by focusing the customer with a beginning and end point, clearly denoting how to use the space. New patisserie displays allowed for a larger and more varied hot and cold offer, and a new multi deck catered for cold drinks. Ambient Grab and Go was factored into the frontage of the counter, and along with an impressive new coffee machine, the new counter was a self-contained unit.
Redecoration, feature lighting and seating all helped to bring the scheme together. New solid surface bar height tables were introduced in the windows to draw in passers-by, and soft leather armchairs help set the comfortable tone.
Completed in a 2 week deadline, the new coffee bar helped kick start the new academic term.
